During our stops in Villarrica, Valdivia and Puerto Varas, as well as day trips to Pucón and Frutillar, we got plenty of opportunity to appreciate the lakes, rivers, mountains and volcanoes that make up the beautiful local scenery in what is, fittingly, known as the Lakes District. It was also interesting to see the German-style buildings built by the first European settlers in the area that look very different from the architecture in the rest of the country.
